Apples

I went to Robinson Memorial United Church again last night to help feed the homeless. As usual I started by washing the apples. I was tired from a day of work and I got thinking that I didn't really have to be too careful about washing the apples since it was 'just the homeless'. Thankfully I caught myself and reminded myself that the homeless need dignity and respect too.

Tonight I worked on drinks with Trevor. He's really good with people, so I supported him while he talked with guests by making sure we had enough milk and juice. Then it was back to the kitchen for dishes. Derek was there too and kept the pace up with the dish washing.

Feeding the Poor

Went to Robinson Memorial United Church again. I worked on the dishes the whole time so I had no interaction with any of the 'clients', which I missed. Afterwards, one of the clients serenaded us on the piano, which was nice.

Feeding the Poor

Went to Robison Memorial United Church to feed the poor/homeless. I had no idea what to expect but I am encouraged. Most of the people who came in were very polite. I was serving drinks (milk, juice and water) and it was really hot today, so everyone kept coming back for more, especially milk. People always said thank you.

I felt pretty comfortable and almost asked a guy his name. Hopefully next time. I still have to get my mind into a position where I don't just think of the homeless as a group of people but as individual people with hopes and dreams and opinions and, as most were men, a need for respect.

Thanks to Derek M. for showing me the ropes.

London Food Bank

Went down to the food bank this morning to help sort food for a couple of hours. The food bank gives it clients 3-4 days worth of food per month. It is meant as a supplement. Met some nice, hard working people.

Applied to Mission Services yesterday via their online form. I told them I was there to develop relationships for the purpose of evangelism.

Strathroy Women's Shelter

So I started my new focus on evangelizing the homeless by not evangelizing the homeless. I and two of my co-workers went to Strathroy to tidy up the Women's Resource Center and the shelter.

There's not really much to say. We cleaned a couple of storerooms. Others worked on the flower beds and power hosed the building. We also cleaned the toys.
